Hotel Villa Paradiso dell’Etna is simply beautiful, so it is not common to find a hotel as perfect in every way as this one. The building dates from the 1920’s and it was built to be a hotel, but after the war it certainly did not look like one anymore. It was the grandson in law of its original owner who decided to refurbish it in the 90’s, and open it as a luxurious hotel. Only the four feet wide outside walls were left untouched, the rest is all new with a liberty style in design and decor. Every room and suite is different, each with different furnishings and details in the walls. For example, head boards made by Sicilian artisans, with semiprecious stones inserted into them. There are four suites in Villa Paradiso dell'Etna, each one with an allegoric name and a unique layout and decor. Suite “Aci” has a beautiful alpaca king bed and Suite “Lachea” is decorated in blue, but not just blue paint or wallpaper, all the motifs on the walls were painted by hand... In this hotel it really does not matter which room you pick, they are all perfect. And if this were not enough, prices are an absolute bargain and the location ideal to visit a lot of Sicily, including Mount Etna, which can clearly be seen from the hotel.
Set in a little village at the foot of Mount Etna, Villa Paradiso dell'Etna allows you to stay in a real Sicilian villa, featuring beautiful gardens and its own pool. Relax in the peace and quiet by Villa Paradiso d'Etna's outdoor pool while you admire the flowers and statues. The garden is also home to a gym with sauna and a poolside bar. In summer outdoor musical entertainment is organized on Sunday evenings.
Inside this historic villa you will find a reading room with log fires and a piano bar. There is a panoramic garden on the rooftop and a summer restaurant, Angolo degli Allori as well as La Pigna restaurant, which serves Sicilian and international cuisine. Villa Paradiso even has its own wine bar and cellar. Enjoy breakfast on the terrace, while looking out over the volcano.

The Beautiful Catania
Standing in the shadow of Mount Etna, Catania is a city of lava. A bustling port opening onto the Ionian Sea, Catania is called the "city of black and white." White plaster and marble and black lava are the main components of its architectural adornment.
Catania is the second-largest city in Sicily, with a population of 380,000. It's a lively place, and the seat of a bishop and a great university. In diference to its hometown boy, Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835), Catania boasts one of Italy's grandest opera houses, where you can hear the operas and the eternal "arias" of this amazing composer.
There is no greater symbol of Catania -a city wiped off the map at least seven times- than the hideously ugly but endearing puce-colored elephant in front of the Duomo. It's made entirely of lava spewed from Etna. Somehow this tough little elephant is an appropriate mascot for Catania itself. By its very toughness, it symbolizes the city's ability to bounce back from one disaster after another, or even to create art from the lava that destroyed it.
