The Posada del Marques is part of a
monastery, but only building wise, because a wall separates the monk’s
quarters from the guest house. It turned out this way because the
ancestors of the present owner took over the place after the monks were
forced to abandon it during war times. Later they called the monks back
and the family kept part of the building to live in and let the rest,
continue on being a monastery. This noble act gained the family such
gratitude from the Pope of the time, that he granted them a Marquis
title. The part which is the Posada del Marqués today, is the only one
we were able to see, it is absolutely magnificent, beautiful gardens and
rooms one more enchanting than the other, all very spacious and
furnished with wonderful antiques that came for the most, from the
family who rebuilt the place. Today the last heir (still a Marquis) has
turned the former living quarters of his family into this magnificent
inn which could very well be rated four stars as far as quality of
building and furnishing, but it is not rated as a hotel according to
Spain’s tourist board. The Marquis himself runs the inn with only the
necessary help to make the bedrooms every morning and serve the
breakfast; the rest he does himself with the most extreme perfect care. |
