Located in the countryside, on
an exceptional site among valleys and apple trees planted meadows, Le Prieuré Saint Michel,
is nowadays an spectacular inn, set in a Benedictine Priory founded in
the late Xth century that has retained most of the religious and
agricultural buildings of the monks. Dry stones, and arched windows
were perfectly combined in the restoration, to re-create the peace and
tranquillity of the ancient priory and its gardens. The magnificent 13th
century's chapel with its barrel vaulted ceiling and one of the largest
timbered cider houses built during the 15th century, still remain
and are laid out forming a courtyard in the centre of which
a small pond, fed by a natural spring
reflects a dazzling palette of colours in its luxuriant surroundings. You will discover rooms
with a lot of charm, and a profusion of
flowers that come from the beautifully laid gardens. Take your time and stroll
through the rose garden, the iris garden or the physic garden, or take the lime walk, with views over the surrounding
countryside, leading to the orchard and wildflower garden, where water
trickles gently down through pools teeming with animal and plant life.
Protected by hedges of hornbeam, each one
reveals itself like a secret as you enter.
A friendly and warm staff invites you to spend pleasant moments in
this enchanting place, that will allow them to tell you and
get in touch with the beautiful history of the priory. |
