Hotel
Quinta Das Lágrimas gets its name from the romantic legend of the
forbidden love between the son of
King D. Alfonso IV and Inês de Castro, a gallician lady. It is said that they
secretly met in te wooded gardens, where later on she was murdered and
her tears, were transformed into a pure,
fresh stream of water, hence the name of the hotel, Quinta das
Lágrimas (House of Tears).
Throughout the years the Quinta was honoured with the visit
as guests of several
illustrious characters
including kings of Portugal and Brazil´s Emperor. Nowdays, this palace has
been transformed
into a stunning, small
deluxe hotel of great modern comfort that
maintains the romantic pale yellow with white trim exterior walls of its
past. Located near "Portugal dos
Pequeninos", not far from Lisbon it is surrounded by
a 10 Acres park
dotted with fountains, romantic twisting paths,
lakes, and with such a large collection of centuries-old trees,
that can be
reckoned as a
Botanical Garden.
Its spacious guest rooms are
often sumptuous but not overly decorated, and everything is in traditional
Portuguese style, including
the warmth of our
staff’s hospitality which makes a visit to Quinta das Lagrimas unforgettable.
In the cozy and refined setting
of the restaurants the guests can taste
the culinary traditions
and kitchen secrets that the family
passed along over the centuries. Chef
Joachim
Koerper uses the freshest products available in the region to produce
creative recipes of delicious flavor, exploring
new ways of preparing centuries old recipes.
