Nature, charm, history, elegance, experiences... this is the essence of Quinta das Lágrimas (Estate of Tears), a hotel with soul and character, a retreat of comfort that honors Portugal's rich traditions of hospitality and gastronomy. For centuries a private sanctuary that welcomed Kings and Emperors, the Quinta das Lágrimas Hotel is now open to all those that appreciate the art of fine living… and to those that want to discover the love legend of Prince Pedro and Inês de Castro.
Quinta das Lágrimas is a retreat of peace and tranquility set within an eighteenth century palace in the heart of Coimbra. The palace, handed down by Kings and Emperors, was restored in the Spring of 2016 to all its glory and is now a monumental hotel which honours the love story between the beautiful noblewoman Inês de Castro and Prince Pedro.
Quinta das Lágrimas was the setting for the great romance of Prince Pedro and Inês.
There is no better place to celebrate your wedding than this oasis of peace and tranquility. Weddings at the Quinta are memorable.... for the exquisite food, for the seclusion the garden offers, and for the blessing that the Quinta’s enchanted water gives to the bride and groom. Legend says that those who drink this water together will be forever in love.
Our experienced and dedicated staff takes all the stress out of organizing a wedding in a foreign country, making sure that no detail is overlooked.
Each season offers a different experience.... Throughout the summer the verandas welcome guests after a day spent relaxing by the pool, and the garden becomes a dining room for meals “al fresco”. In spring the Quinta witnesses the rebirth of Nature, and the botanical garden takes center stage. With autumn the green canopy gives way to a palette of earth tones as the leaves change color. Come winter and the hotel grows even cozier: Glittering fireplaces warm body and soul, and the Christmas spirit makes magic throughout the hotel.
The Quinta’s 12 hectares of botanical gardens are a true Natural Museum where rare trees are exhibited as if they were works of art. The Quinta das Lágrimas’ collection of trees boasts specimens from all corners of the world, including camphor trees, maples, palm trees, araucarias, and a couple of sequoias planted by the Duke of Wellington.
Legend says that Inês’ ghost stills roams the Quinta, eternally searching for Pedro. If you are lucky you might even meet her…

Coimbra, the ancient capital of Portugal, is one step beyond the Quinta's gates, offering a thousand years of history, countless artistic treasures, and one of the world's oldest universities.
Coimbra is also a city of poets, of scholars and students, and of Fado, that nostalgic tune is the mirror that is the image of Portugal.
Halfway between Lisbon and Porto, Coimbra is an indispensable stop for all those who travel in search of the real Portugal.

In 1999 the Golf Academy of Quinta das Lágrimas was founded in Coimbra, an investment made by the Quinta das Lágrimas group and supported by João Lagos Sport, in order to create for the city a Social value and to diversify the sporting activities of the population, to this date removed from the world of golf.
Initially with the opening of the Driving Range and then with the inauguration of its Pitch and Putt, the Academy was soon a success, having attracted from the first day many people interested in learning this sport, whose had had no contact with the modality of golf, except through television or during a vacation outside Coimbra.
The golfers who attended the Academy assiduously, from an early age began to go to the golf courses to play, especially to the golf course of Montebelo, because it is the "field closer to home", and to participate in competitions in this same field. Thus, it was quickly concluded that there was a need for the creation of the Club so that, at the federative level, players could enjoy the benefits of any federation, such as managing their handicaps and participating in events organized by other clubs in a regular way.
Thus came the Quinta das Lágrimas Golf Club.
