The most famous town of this area is
Como, noted for its estabilished silk industry and it’s ideal for
the shopping.
Proceeding towards Laglio, there is a picturesque small village,
Cernobbio.
Trekking‘s lovers can go for mountain walks along the mule driver
winding towards the neighboring village, Carate.
Another interesting itinerary is that one climbing towards the
Intelvi Valley up to Sighignola, called the “Balcony of Italy”, for
its extraordinary view over the Alps.
Crossing several villages like Lenno, where the lake creates a small
gulf you can get to Comacina Island reachable by a boat service.
Located in Tremezzo, there is Villa Carlotta, a luxurious Eighteen
Century building.
It is surrounded by a park containing about five hundred species of
plants and flowers, and housing, among others, marble statues by
Antonio Canova.
Tours of the Villa are possible from spring to autumn, from 9.00 am
to 6.00 p.m.
Not far from there, the two banks of Lario are connected by a ferry
from Cadenabbia to Bellagio, named “the pearl of Como lake”.
At Menaggio golfers will appreciate a famous golf club, with its
natural course (18 holes). |
