Old Corte Guastalla is among
the most prestigious rural courts located on the hills of
the lower Garda area. The territory, which is in between
Mantua and Verona, is characterized by a natural landscape
of incomparable beauty, to which along the centuries the
respectful human mark has been added .
The master’s house, that was erected on a pre-existent
medieval building in the 16th century, became extremely
important for the strategic location as can be seen on the
painted map in the Miniscalchi-Erizzo Museum.
For centuries the Spolverini family linked its lot to this
property. During the Scaligeri domination the mighty and
wealthy Spolverini family acquired important feudal rights
after having purchased hereditary titles from the nobles Dal
Verme
Old Guastalla then belonged to Giangerolamo Spolverini, son
of Giovanbattista, and in 1745 a cadastral survey policy
stated that the property had been extended and had many
workers employed in it.
With the end of the Spolverini lineage, the property of Old
Guastalla was inherited by Teresa Muselli (daughter of
Isotta Spolverini Dal Verme), and then by Marianna Saibante,
wife of Earl Francesco Giusti Del Giardino.
In 1863 the ownership of the Old Guastalla and of the nearby
Villa of New Guastalla, which also belonged to the
historical possession of the Spolverini family, passed to
Earl Julio Giusti
For a long time Old Guastalla was used as a farm, and a
state of neglect followed for many years. |
