The
island of Capri is one of the loveliest resorts in
Italy, a dramatic island soaring upward from the sea, with sweeping
views, whitewashed homes and villas, fragrant lemon trees, narrow
winding lanes, and flower-filled courtyards.
Touring the island is relatively simple. You dock at unremarkable
Marina Grande, the port area. You can then take the funicular up the
steep hill to the town of Capri above, where you'll find the major
hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shops. From Capri, a short bus ride
will deliver you to Anacapri, also perched at the top of the island
near Monte Solaro. The only other settlement you might want to visit
is Marina Piccola, on the south side of the island, with the major
beach. There are also beaches at Punta Carnea and Bagni di Tiberio.
The Relais Maresca Hotel is located at Marina Grande, 50 yards from
the port, the beach and from the cable-car which in just 3 minutes
takes guests up to Piazzetta Capri. The position is ideal for
spending time on the beach, for visiting the “Grotta Azzurra” (or
Blue Grotto), for boat tours around the island, for excursions to
Capri and Anacapri as well as Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Pompei and
Vesuvius.
The centre of Capri is easily reached by cable-car and buses for
Capri and Anacapri stop less than 50 yards from the hotel. There is
also a taxi-rank just a few steps away. |
