Relais della Rovere is located in the heart of Chianti area, in "Località LA
BADIA" near Colle Val d'Elsa where you can simply lose yourself
in the nearby countryside to discover the eternal attraction of the
abbeys lost amidst the olive trees.
The chianti area runs through a north/south axis from Florence
down to Siena, and is the famous land of the most well known of all
Italian wines and of vineyards and hilltop towns, with Greve, Radda and
Castellina forming a triangle. Greve, for example is home to
Chianti's largest wine fair, held every September. The small village,
named after the nearby river, expanded considerably during the 14th &
15th centuries, and, after the unification of Italy, became the most
important centre of the valley. There tourists will find a wine shop
around every corner, to test and enjoy the best wines of the region. Castellina is another interesting hilltop town to visit,
with its remains of the flowing wars between Florence and Siena, like
the Via delle Volte, a covered gallery that was once part of the town
fortifications and the old fort, in the central square.
Radda, to the east of the Chiantigiana route, located in
the Monti del Chianti, that was once the seat of the mediaeval
Lega di Chianti, has retained more of its ancient character than
most towns and villages of the area.
Moreover, Della Rovere is so near
Florence that you can visit its museums and architectural
masterpieces, and get right back to sleep in the relais. |
