Famously
built in record time for the 1992 Olympic Games, the Hotel Rey Juan
Carlos I has rapidly become an institution in Barcelona. This
beautiful designed glass atrium hotel, raised on the
site of what was once a sprawling farm, amidst ancient old, carefully
manicured, gardens, rises with an impressive architecture as a
massive skyscraper structure, in the uptown district of the city,
surrounded by financial corporations and fashionable shops.
The hotel's most spectacular space is the lobby with its panoramic
lifts, which rise along the walls, offering a perspective both unusual
and bold. Dominated by a sculpture of X. Corberó, it constitutes a kind
of interior patio which, as a vantage point in the form of a pyramid,
gives access on each floor, to the salons and guest rooms through
surrounding hallways. Decorated with deep blue, white-spotted carpet,
contemporary timber furniture, and modern art prints the 412 spacious
guestrooms offer stunning, sweeping views of the city.
The Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I, has recently renewed its facilities
in order to offer a higher quality service to its guests. The garden
Restaurant is one of them. Surrounded by one of the city's most
beautiful gardens, with its romantic lake and peaceful walks, relaxing
vegetation and with the marvellous swimming pool as a backdrop, it
offers Mediterranean creative cuisine, and is ideal either
for business lunches or romantic dinners, which are livened up by live
piano music. Other restaurants, bars, exterior areas, and a health spa
complement this resort like, luxury hotel, an oasis of peace to
stay in a hectic city. |
