Tuscany is considered
by many people as the romantic
epitome of Italy. A beautiful
land of rolling hills, medieval castles, villas and
vineyards, not to mention the epicentre of the
Renaissance with important cities such as Florence, Siena and Pisa,
as example of it. From one end to another in Tuscany one can find examples of every age
and style: from the Etruscan civilization to Roman monuments and
ruins; from the Romanesque architecture to the
impressive Gothic cathedrals, and, of course, to the
exceptional artistic explosion of the Renaissance.
Hidden in the region
there are also some beautiful little towns
where the character still remains true to itself,
such as Orbetello, with
roots as ancient: as the Etruscan settlements, esteemed
around the VII century B.C. It stands on a small island surrounded by
the Eastern and Western Lagoons, divided by an artificial dam
that, since 1841, has linked the town to the promontory of
Monte Argentario, a favourite seaside haven for Romans. Nearby
Orbetello and the hotel the Grosseto countryside is full of castles,
watch towers and manor houses to explore. Also you reach wonderful beaches
within a 10 min. drive, and the natural park of Monti dell'Uccellina, one of Italy's
last unspoiled coast lines, is only 12 km away. |
