Portofino is considered a
jewel in Italy – and most of the rest of the world. It is the pearl of
the Mediterranean Sea and it manages to be combine sophistication and
simplicity.
It is a perfect spot for discovering some wonderful places, such as the
old seafaring village of Camogli, the small Bay of San Fruttoso, the
famous “Cinque Terre” and the spectacular paths of the Mount of
Portofino with its striking view. |

Discover the trail that goes
through ten Cinque Terre where, the sea, the hills, the
wineyards, the old foshing villages, and the Genovese
style churches add together to result in enthralling
scenery. A unique characteristic of the area are the
terraced wineyards sustained by dry walling, a perfect
example of landscape architecture created by man in
inaccessible surroundings. Panoramic foot paths are well
used by walkers and trekkers alike, and along some paths
one is likely to meet up with horseriders. |

A pleasant
walk around the mountain of Portofino or a boat trip
will take you to S. Fruttuoso di Capodimonte, where
at the half of the 10th century some Greek monks built a
temple to bury the martyr Fruttuoso, whose corpse
was brought from Spain. A beautiful abbey still
stands today dominating the bay. |

The
Christ of the Abysses: In the waters of the bay of
San Fruttuoso in the current Marine Protected Area of
Portofino, a beautiful bronze statue 2.50 meters
high stands out of the transparency and the blue of the
bottom of the sea, the vegetal decoration and the darts
of the fauna, in the primordial and solitary silence.
This floating figure stands with its arms holding
up to the sky in sign of invocation. The sweet
expression on its inclined face strikes not only the
brain, but also the heart of man. It is a dive into the
history of diving and at the same time a hope for the
future.
