A historic
building that served as the residence for the Marquis of Monte St. Maria
family, as well as the Palace of Justice in the 13th century, hosts
nowadays the Hotel San Michele. Located in the heart of the
Etruscan-medieval town of Cortona, it represents a
slice of the history that stretches back to the 11th century.
This elegantly restored Renaissance palace, was originally a rectangular
structure, which underwent major modifications, of which the
remnants can still be seen in some areas. Even though, it still remains
as a charming 16th stately home, with vaults and
fired brick floors that have been preserved and furniture harmonizing
perfectly, with the antique architecture. Its 50 bedrooms are
uniquely and tastefully decorated, with exposed wooden beams,
and some with skylight windows with wonderful views of rooftops,
landscapes and the hotel's interior courtyard.
This beautiful and stylish hotel is an ideal base to explore the wonderful hill town of Cortona
with a typically Italian charm and historic ambience. |
