We are also close to Derrynane House and Beach, Muckross House, Ladies View and Torc Waterfalls, Killarney National Park, Ross Castle, Garnish Island and the Skellig Michael World Heritage Site, while the Dingle Peninsula is about 1.5 hours away.
Little wonder that these mythical regions have attracted visitors for hundreds of years. Now it’s your turn.
Luxurious. Relaxing. Beautiful. As one of Ireland’s leading 5 star hotels, this hallmark also extends to our supremely spacious bedrooms, some of which have open fireplaces and stunning views over either Kenmare Bay or the cascading Sheen Waterfalls.
Stepping into the Falls Master Suite, you can sense the care and craftsmanship that have gone into its design. From the opulent architecture to the small features and flourishes, the suite is bound to charm. And with a six-seated dining table and extra bathroom, it’s a marvellous place for you to entertain company.
The most striking space is the octagonal drawing room, with an oculus set into the ceiling twenty feet above. One wall is almost completely composed of wide windows, where you can watch the River Sheen roll down the waterfall, under the 18th-century stone bridge, and into Kenmare Bay. In the winter, savour a good book and a vintage brandy from your private bar, as logs from the nearby coppice crackle and flame in the fireplace.
In the warmer months, take breakfast on the bedroom balcony, overlooking the gardens and the river. With your own parking space, side entrance and personal check-in service, you can enjoy a true escape in tranquillity and luxury.
Swing open the French doors from the lounge area and step out onto your own private terrace. Across the garden, patchworked with heather, is the tumbling waterfall, the riverbanks lined with ancient oaks. Sit on the terrace sunloungers and sip Champagne, listening to the burble of the water and watching for wildlife.
Inside, the suite is open plan – a bright and flowing space. Bespoke furnishings from local suppliers adorn the room, designed to evoke the natural beauty for which Kenmare is famed. With a king bed and discrete dressing room, the Oscars Suite is the perfect place for you and your partner to relax, luxuriate and simply spend time together.
Warm yourself by the log fire in winter, listen to bright birdsong in the spring, spend summer mornings sipping coffee on the private patio; The Landsdowne Suite has a calm and peaceful charm in all seasons. The living space is open plan, with a sunken sitting room and three steps leading up to the dining and kitchen area. Sunlight flows in through the tall windows and the suite is tastefully styled with locally crafted furniture and the natural colours of Kenmare.
As night falls, ascend the staircase to the master bedroom; the windows look out at Kenmare Bay, where silver moonlight ripples on the waves. The Landsdowne Suite sleeps two adults in 1645 square feet of space (150 square metres), while two optional adjoining rooms turn the suite into a two- or three-bedroom apartment, perfect for families or groups of travelling companions.
An unusual layout, a particular view, a certain ambience… each of our five Signature Suites is unique and exceptional. Whether it’s a wall of windows facing the waterfall, an open fireplace warming the room, or a balcony looking over the River Sheen, our guests fall in love with the features of their favourite suites.
Our Signature Suites are mainly for couples looking for homely luxury: a place where you can unwind when exploring Kenmare’s wild beauty, exquisite cuisine and slow way of life. To find the suite that suits your taste, get in touch and we can suggest the right one for you: call + 353 (0) 64 6641600 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
A wonderful suite where you'll feel at home, whether you're a couple looking for time alone or you're on a family holiday. Watch the river from the window of the master bedroom, and when the sun sets let the burbling water soothe you to sleep. The sitting room also overlooks the waterfall through tall, wide windows. And the décor echoes the beauty outside, from the velvety moss blanketing the river stones, to the warm wood tones and floral flourishes.
Up to three children can sleep comfortably in the sitting room and two adults in the bedroom. You can also interconnect each of the suites with a Superior Deluxe Room, hosting up to four adults and three children or two adults and five children.
Wonderful for a romantic escape, where you can truly tune out of the wider world and find peace and quiet in one another’s company. Our Bay View Suites feature an en-suite bedroom and separate drawing room, with an entrance hall adjoining the two. Both rooms overlook the beauty of Kenmare Bay, with interiors influenced by the fauna and features of the natural landscape.
Sit back with a book in a sumptuous armchair, or spread out on the sofa and watch a film from our collection. If, inspired by the landscape, you wish to put pen to paper, every one of our rooms and suites has a writing desk, and all our furniture is made by skilled local craftsmen.
Natural light pours in through the wide windows, where you can pick a volume from the bookshelf, settle into the sofa and lose yourself between the pages. The open-plan seating area has plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy. Outside, the stone bridge spans the River Sheen, where herons ply the water as it purls around the rocks.
Carefully designed interiors bring the outside in, reflecting the colours and ambience of the hotel’s natural surroundings: the heather in the gardens, the murmuring river and the oak and beech trees that envelop the estate. With extra beds available for families, and an average room size of 660 square feet (61 square metres), our Estate Falls View Rooms can accommodate up to two adults and three children, or a couple for a luxurious longer stay.
Relax in an open-plan room, with plenty of space for a family or couple planning a longer stay. On average, our Estate Rooms are 660 square feet (61 square metres). From the sitting area, ponder the changing landscape as the bay ebbs and flows, bringing seals at high tide and birdlife at low. Or sink into the soft, sumptuous couch as evening draws in and watch a film from our extensive collection.
With two beds set stylishly into a wall-mounted wardrobe, our Estate Bay View Rooms can sleep two adults and up to three children, yet remain a spacious area to spend time with family, plan the day’s activities, or relax after exploring the beauty of Kenmare.
Spacious, relaxed and luxurious. Our Superior Rooms are similar to our Deluxe Rooms, but with extra space and better views of the waterfall. After a day of wandering the countryside, take some time to slow down. Perhaps settle into an easy chair and watch the water cascade beneath the bridge, or flick on the bedside lamp and curl up under the covers with a book from the room’s collection.
We’ve decorated each of our rooms with pieces handmade by local artisans, from the art adorning the walls to the sumptuous seating and exquisite curtains. Our Superior Rooms are on average 505 square feet (47 square metres) and can sleep two adults with an optional extra bed for a child.
Sip a coffee and contemplate the view from one of the plush armchairs by the window; our Deluxe Rooms overlook the waterfall, where the River Sheen runs under the old stone bridge and tumbles down towards the bay. If you’re lucky you might glimpse a heron, or the rare sight of salmon leaping upstream.
The room’s colour scheme takes its cues from the landscape outside, while the furniture, fabrics and furnishings are made by local craftsmen and carefully selected by our interior designers. Our Deluxe Rooms are on average 440 square feet (41 square metres), so whether you’re a couple looking for some time alone or a small family of three, you’ll have plenty of space to unwind.
A place where you can unwind and relax in your own calm, quiet room. Gaze out at Kenmare Bay, shimmering at high tide and drawing birdlife as the water ebbs out to sea. Or choose from the room’s selection of books, handpicked by our librarian, and settle down beside the window to read in the light of the setting sun.
Each of our Classic Rooms is decorated with colours, textures and patterns inspired by the serenity of the surrounding countryside. And at 419 square feet (38 square metres), there’s generous space for a couple to stay here comfortably, or a small family of two adults and one child.
An enchanting two-bedroom thatched cottage, an elegant apartment or a superb four-bedroom house. Our luxury holiday villas offer ultimate comfort with a home-from-home atmosphere – and the benefit of unlimited access to all of the hotel’s services and activities.
Long, elegant dining rooms for joyful family meals. Spacious sitting rooms with elegant furniture and glowing fires. Private gardens where children can play, and patios where you can sit and sip coffee, take lunch and enjoy the fresh Kenmare air. Our four-bedroom Bay Villas are ideal places for you to get together with family and friends to celebrate one another’s company. Strike out and explore the local walks through woodland and alongside the River Sheen, or venture further afield and discover the untamed beauty of south-west Ireland, from mountain ranges and historic towns to the Wild Atlantic Way.
Just a short stroll from Sheen Falls Lodge, you’ll have access to all the hotel amenities. Indulge in a spa treatment, dine at The Falls Restaurant, or book onto one of our many activities, with everything from falconry to fishing. You’ll be our guest, enjoying all the services that Sheen Falls Lodge provides, but with your own private accommodation.
As you approach Marianne’s Cottage, with its thatched roof and tall stone chimney, you’ll find yourself spellbound. Inside it’s just as enchanting, from the open-beam ceilings and log fires to the effortless blend of traditional charm and contemporary comfort. Sink back into the sitting-room couch with a good book in hand and a glass of wine beside you.
When the night comes to a close, climb the staircase to your bedroom. Each room has a marble en-suite, where you can luxuriate in a hot bath or shower away the day’s adventures before curling up in your king-size bed. The rooms also have their own balconies, and can be converted to twin bedrooms if you’re here with family.
Morning light illuminates the sun lounge, with the garden all around, gently sloping down to Kenmare Bay; walk to the water’s edge, where you can spot seals, otters and a wealth of birdlife, from oystercatchers and kingfishers to the rare white-tailed sea eagles. The hotel is only a five-minute walk away; treat yourself in our spa or sample the freshest local food, expertly prepared in our two AA Rosette restaurant.
Roll through the private gate, down the meandering drive, to your own tucked-away cottage. You’ll feel as though you’ve passed into a pastoral idyll, with the thatched roof, birdsong tinkling in the trees and Kenmare Bay visible beyond the branches. An acre of private garden encircles the cottage, filled with flowering shrubs.
Push open the front door and walk down the hallway into the drawing room: warm tones, traditional style and an open fire. The kitchen is truly memorable, with a bright bay window and an eye-level fire filling the room with a flickering glow. Beside the kitchen, the sun lounge opens out onto your terrace, with a rolling lawn leading down to the edge of the bay. Up the spiral staircase are your two bedrooms with marble en-suites. In the morning, enjoy the early sun and Atlantic air on your bedroom balcony, looking out over the bay.
Little Hay is perfect as a peaceful retreat for you and your family, or two couples travelling together. For larger parties, book the nearby Garden Cottage, which can accommodate an additional four guests. Take a five-minute stroll to the main hotel, where you’ll find our restaurant, spa and a range of activities and country pursuits.
Garden Cottage feels like it’s your own little secret. As you sit out on the terrace, watching the sunset over the bay and the suspension bridge in the distance, it’s as though you’re the only people for miles. Inside, there’s a kitchenette and a cosy lounge, which shares the terrace view of Kenmare Bay.
In the evening, retire to your room and browse the books that our librarian has selected. The cottage has two bedrooms, one king and one twin, each with an en-suite bathroom. The décor throughout matches the traditional thatch-and-stone style, with touches and echoes of the natural surroundings.
You can book the Garden Cottage on its own as a peaceful retreat, or pair it with Little Hay Cottage for a party of up to eight. In the morning, set out and explore the local walks, ambling alongside rivers, woods and parkland. Or stroll over to the main hotel and all its amenities, including our restaurant, our spa, and a range of activities.
If the Estate’s enchanting surroundings and the cascading waters of Sheen Falls haven’t worked their therapeutic magic, then a visit to Easanna Spa certainly will.

With 15 miles of outstanding fishing on the estate alone, you can almost feel the twitch of the line from your bedroom window. With plentiful lakes nearby too, salmon, trout and fly fishing are all possible here. Just keep an eye on Oscar the heron, says our resident instructor.
Some say fishing in Ireland is better than anywhere else, and there are few nicer bases to set out from than Sheen Falls Lodge. From the River Sheen tumbling through the estate, to the lakes of Gleninchaquin, Barfinnihy and Cloonee, a short drive away, there are plenty of excellent opportunities to catch trout and salmon, as well as numerous sheltered bays and inlets for beach fishing.
Our experienced resident instructor, or Ghillie as it's traditionally known, is on hand to impart that all important local knowledge to your fishing break. Guiding, equipment and licenses can also be arranged.
Not many hotels can boast their very own smoke house, but Sheen Falls Lodge can. Fish or no fish in hand, you’ll be able to enjoy our very own freshly caught wild Atlantic salmon, cooked or smoked to perfection and served in our restaurants.

THE RIVER SHEEN
Rising in Kerry’s Caha Mountains and flowing in a northerly direction for 15 miles, the River Sheen makes its way through the estate’s grounds before entering the sea at Kenmare bay. As a spate system, the Sheen is subject to violent floods, so please do take care.
Fishing on the entire river is controlled by the Sheen Falls Estate, with all legal methods allowed. Shrimp is particularly effective in low water and spinning/worming in a spate, while fly fishing is productive in medium water.
Salmon fishing is mostly concentrated on the first five to six miles of the river, up to Dromagorteen Bridge (just north of Bonane on the N71). However, the first four miles up to Dromanassig are considered the best. The finest pools are Sheen Pool, Flat Pool, Sand Pool and Weir Pool, just above the Sheen Falls.
Other pools of attention run up to Releagh Bridge (N71), but do bear in mind that the water runs very quickly off the upper river. The Coomeelan River, which joins the Sheen from the East above Dromogarteen Bridge, also has a few pools worth fishing.
THE FISHING SEASONS
A decent run of spring fish often starts the season, but it can be May before it’s worth wetting a line. The impressive Grilse run – Atlantic salmon returning to the river after just one season – starts at the end of May and continues through until the end of August, with June and July being peak season.
Sea trout can also run from May, but like many other rivers, their numbers have been in steady decline. Brown Trout fishing can be good too, with resident fish weighing up to 3lb.
Gleninchaquin Lake is set in a beautiful mountainside location, not too far from Kenmare. You can fish for brown trout in the two lakes without additional charge. Surrounded by high, rugged cliffs, Cummeenadillure Lough is a tranquil place suitable for other pursuits such as walking.
Barfinnihy Lake is located six miles from Kenmare with stunning views of Molls Gab. Stocked monthly by the regional fisheries board, you’ll find rainbow trout in abundance with spinning and fly fishing the most popular methods.
Cloonee Lake, part of the Cloonee System, is eight miles south of Kenmare and contains large stocks of brown trout and sea trout from late July onwards. The picturesque fishing spot attracts international anglers and there are boats for hire in the area.
With its picturesque location and many well-known golf courses nearby, Sheen Falls Lodge is regarded as one of the best golf hotels in Ireland.
The County of Kerry must be every golfer’s paradise. While some courses are set amidst tranquil woodlands and lakes, casting beautiful reflections on still days, others enjoy breathtaking views over the bay, with blasts of invigorating sea air. It's a perfect spot for scenic golf holidays.
For the romantic, there is no better place to play. For the ambitious, satisfaction will also be found in the challenge of playing some of Europe’s finest courses. The 18-hole Kenmare Golf Club and The Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club, both designed by Ireland’s foremost designer Eddie Hackett, are courses of particular exception.
Whatever your ability or group requirements, we’d be happy to advise and help organise your perfect golf break.

Lying 8 miles off the coast of Portmagee in South Kerry, Skellig Michael towers 714 ft above the sea and was the location for a monastic settlement from about the sixth century. The remarkably well preserved remains of this settlement draw visitors from near and far to experience the solitude and spirituality of the remote and inaccessible place, these monks called home. The atmosphere is relaxed; there’s always music beneath the murmur of voices and the ring of wine glasses, either floating softly from the stereo or played by our resident pianist. Candles flicker on the tables, and the high windows look out over the floodlit waterfall.
We happily cater for children and all dietary requirements; please do let us know of your needs in advance so that we can whip up something special. The dress code is smart casual, to match the restaurant’s informal air, and dinner is served from 6.30pm.

Please fill this form for individuals or for groups and you shall receive an answer written by a live person at Sheen Falls Lodge. This is the only way you can know exactly what room types are available for the dates you want, and the best possible rate, because you are dealing directly with the hotel.
Bear in mind that websites set up to give an automatic answer, work with allocated quotas given by the hotel, therefore when it appears there are no rooms available for the date you want, this is not necessarily true, because they never allocate ALL the rooms to third parties.
