At Tenuta del Gallo we practice the art of hospitality, in a way that combines familiarity, discretion and elegance. A friendly, welcoming attitude is part of our family history, with its intact southern roots and the memories of feasts and banquets that were once celebrated in the family gatherings. We wanted to bring here this way of welcoming, so that our guests could feel at home, in a private and intimate atmosphere.
The décor and furniture belong to our family, handed down from generation to generation. We love beautiful things, old furniture and Flemish paintings, silks and brocades, four-poster beds and Persian rugs, marble and stucco, ornate ceilings and fireplaces; we love roses and hydrangeas, fountains and Florentine vases, so we decided to bring here everything we love, to love it even more and share it with you.
At Tenuta del Gallo you will also experience waking up and falling asleep with the singing of birds, and you might discover a hoopoe that nested in the trunk of an olive tree, right next to your dining table.
Here we consider the respect for nature as one of our fundamental principles. We have photovoltaic panels, solar panels and a water purification system, and we do our best to preserve this unspoiled breathtaking environment, so that every year, when spring comes, the hoopoe, the ladybugs, the fireflies, the goldfinches and the bees can renew the life and beauty of our Italian countryside.
When you arrive, please ring the bell by the main gate, which is kept closed, just like in a private house, but we always leave the entrance door open. You will be welcomed by the non-formal and relaxed smile of our family members.

The gifts of the land …
The farm, which the “Relais La Tenuta del Gallo” is part of, extends for over more than 20 hectares of land, for the most part cultivated for cereal crops.
From the vast olive groves with the typical cultivations of the Amerini Hills, an excellent extra virgin olive oil is produced, which, in 2008 won “il Ramoscello d’Oro” award, qualifying as the best oil in the competition reserved to oil producers of Amerino. Another mono-variety oil is also produced.
The vegetable garden and various fruit trees offer exquisite seasonal produce, used in the restaurant for the preparation of the dishes as well as for the making of jams, marmalades, pickled spicy fruit, candied fruits, dried fruit, conserves and sauces. In the farm we produce rasberries and blackberries, and there are also rare trees of ancient fruits, including black fallacciani figs and different varieties of apples typical of the area, like the “Ulpia” of the ancient Romans, the “abbondanza”, the “limoncella”, the “amerina”, the pink apple of Amelia. These ancient fruits bestow forgotten, valuable flavours and delights, from which the exquisite jams are obtained.
From the pigs breeding who grow up free in the woods of the farm, we produce fine meats and salami for our restaurant.
It is possible to purchase the products of the farm, also in valuable gift packs.

Amelia is the most ancient Umbrian town, founded by Umbrian peoples in the XII century B.C. The village is protected and surrounded by polygonal megalithic walls, built with huge blocks without using grout. According to the legend the walls were built by Cyclopes.
Amelia was an important prosperous municipality of Roman peoples and the original name was “Ameria”. Many evidences point to those ancient times, some of which are partially preserved in ancient palaces, like Palazzo Venturelli, whereas some other ones are still intact: the Roman Gate, the Roman cisterns, and the statue of Germanico (Caligola’s father) in the archeological museum.
Amelia is also rich in medieval and Renaissance monuments and work of arts: the Municipal Tower with its dodecagonal plant built in 1050 A.D., symbol of municipal independence; the noble palaces with their frescoes like Palazzo Petrignani, Palazzo Cansacchi, Palazzo Farrattini (a small scale copy of Palazzo Farnese in Rome) and Palazzo Venturelli; the churches of San Francesco, Sant’Agostino and San Magno; the Cathedral.
The Theatre of Amelia is also worth to be mentioned. Built in 1782, it is a miniature of the theatre “La Fenice” of Venice.
Traditional festivals cannot be missed, like the “Palio dei Colombi” (Medieval tournament) and pageantry of Amerini Statutes dating back to Middle Age.
Macchie is a village near Amelia, recorded in ancient documentation as “Castrum Machiae”, due to the surrounding prosperous woods of Mediterranean machia Of the ancient castle some parts of the walls, a turret and the gate have remained over the centuries. The legend tells that Federico Barbarossa had to stop his march towards Rome because of the plague and stayed in Macchie, captivated by its natural beauty.
