In addition to learning to listen to the body’s messages, guests of the Grand Hotel Terme Trieste & Victoria will be able to pamper themselves whilst answering the body’s needs with appropriate wellness treatments. This stately residence was once the backdrop for historical events and stories of all-Italian love, passion, hope and sacrifice. It was in the rooms of this charming hotel that some of Italy’s most heroic moments were played out at the close of the First World War. For it was here at the end of 1917 that General Armando Diaz decided to transfer Supreme Command of the Army’s General Staff, and it was also here that poet Gabriele D'Annunzio coordinated his incredible flight over Vienna. The strategies that led to the surrender of the Austro-Hungarian army were decided in room 110, and the same room set the stage for the signing of the triumphal win. This document, which can still be read in its entirety on the façade of the palazzo, changed the name of the Grand Hotel Trieste to the Grand Hotel Trieste & Victoria.
This fate was to continue in subsequent decades, in particular during the Second World War when the hotel was transformed into a military clinic and Abano was declared a hospital city, thereby ensuring it was spared from bombardments.
If the charm of the glorious past still remains intact a century later, it is thanks to the owners (first the Mazzuccato and Brega families, then the Borile family) who undertook the conservative restoration, from the façade to the splendid rooms with their period furnishings, of the legendary heart of Abano. Those staying here relive a little bit of history, and are in the venerable company of illustrious guests such as Antonio Segni or Cardinal Angelo Roncalli, the future Pope Giovanni XXIII.
A further plus point is the position of the resort, which lies in the very centre of the pedestrian area with all its shops. Those who prefer to avoid urban living can immerse themselves in hotel grounds that cover an area of 30,000 m², dotted with pools like the Alaska pool (excellent for movement: its cooled thermal waters make it possible to practice sports swimming, thereby benefiting from all its therapeutic aspects) and the Acapulco which is internally connected to the Ontario and Niagara, featuring Jacuzzis, plunge pool and a counter-current walkway.
Even the most demanding guest find their every need is met by the accommodation: the choice ranges from apartments that are the very height of luxury to suites, the Elegance and Exclusive rooms, some of which include a private en-suite room for mud therapy: an absolute exclusive for the Hotel Trieste & Victoria in the whole city of Abano.
This fin de siècle structure houses an extremely modern soul which gives guests a burst of energy and vitality, starting with the food. Sumptuous buffets or open-air restaurants also provide light, flavoursome menus for those who want to keep in shape without the sacrifices of dieting. Evenings are brought to life with entertainment in the Victoria Room, whilst the piano bar is perfect for sipping a drink and drawing the day to a close to the sounds of classical music and jazz
