THE CAPRA, A LUXURY BOUTIQUE FIVE-STAR WELLNESS HOTEL IN SAAS-FEE

The Capra is an intimate five-star, alpine luxury boutique lodge in a spectacular natural setting. There’s nowhere else in the world where so many 4,000 metre peaks are visible at a single glance. The car-free Swiss ski resort of Saas-Fee is a favourite among winter sports connoisseurs for its long ski season, guaranteed high-quality snow, and authentic charm.

Combining the cosiness of a chalet with the comforts of a luxury hotel, The Capra’s understated elegance is inspired by the pure intensity of the alpine scenery. Expansive suites in warm earth tones have panoramic views of snow-frosted peaks, pristine valleys, and wide-open skies. The Capra is the ultimate place to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.

The fire-lit lounge, snug library, and delightful spa are designed to soothe your senses after a day of exhilarating alpine activities. Even more indulgent is the wholesome, farm-to-table cuisine found in our restaurant.

The Capra has converted a traditional barn to a ski-in ski-out cabin that allows for carefree access to the ski pistes.

OUR STORY

With a strong desire to reconnect with nature, family and friends, and escape from the hectic lifestyle of the city, a few years ago, the now owners of The Capra set out to find their home away from home.

After a long search for the right property, this group of friends, who all shared a love for the mountains and skiing, found the ideal, unspoiled setting high in the Swiss Alps. When they came to Saas-Fee, they fell in love with the village and a new idea was born, instead of creating a house, they decided to expand and share their vision with other people by converting a small traditional Swiss hotel into a chalet hotel that blends rustic charm with modern design. As well as transforming the hotel’s aesthetics, the owners have incorporated the healthy lifestyle synonymous with Swiss living and the “getting back to nature” ethos of the Saas Valley.

The owners’ attention to detail and quality of service exemplify Switzerland’s unrivalled reputation for five-star hospitality.

The story of the naming of The Capra is inspired by the Latin word for mountain goat and after the black and white goats that roam the valleys and peaks around Saas-Fee. Unique to the Valais region, these adventurous creatures reflect the hotel’s authentic sense of place and respect for the natural environment. The two-tone goats also embody the ying-yang – the holistic harmony between man and nature, mind and body, which is the hallmark of The Capra.

OUR DESIGN

The Capra’s warm atmosphere is designed to complement the traditional village setting and dramatic alpine landscape.

Soothing colours, organic materials, and rich textures are inspired by nature – wood-panelled walls, brushed tweeds, stone bathrooms. Glowing log fires are reflected in crystal ceiling lights, evocative of the sparkling glaciers framed in floor-to-ceiling windows.

The design of the hotel has been undertaken by a group of Swiss architects complemented by UK interior design management team, with a focus on fusing the alpine traditional character with modern luxury. All the furnishing has been designed bespoke, specifically for The Capra. The lighting concept was designed by leading Swiss design team and is based on the theme “fire and ice”, in harmony with the contrasting environment ensuring to enhance the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel.

Traditional elements are seamlessly combined with the latest technology, from under-floor heating to wireless entertainment systems. The result is a timeless classic that captures the relaxed spirit of chalet luxury.

SAAS-FEE

Saas-Fee and the Saastal Valley are surrounded by no less than eighte

en 4,000-metre peaks! Its breathtaking landscape of beautiful mountains and glaciers is simply amazing to behold. Perfectly groomed ski slopes reach from 3,600 metres right down to the villages. It has just been rated as the Alpine ski resort with the most reliable snow cover. A great network of cableways skiers and snowboarders up into the mountains. On top of that, Saas-Fee also offers plenty of other winter sports opportunities such as sledging ice climbing, snowshoe trails, winter hiking, Bavarian curling, cross-country skiing and much more.

Whatever your preferences are, our team of local insiders will plan a personalised itinerary to help you make the most of Saas-Fee.

THE VALLEY

Known as the Napa Valley of Switzerland, the Valais has been producing wine since the third century AD. More than 40 grape varieties flourish on terraced vineyards clinging to the slopes of the Rhône Valley. This rugged terrain produces wines full of vigour and character. Wooden canals irrigate the vineyards with melted snow and ice. Stroll along the canals, stopping to sample vintages at small, scenic wineries along the way.

What better way to complement your wine tour with a visit to some of the local cheesemakers and sample some of the finest cheeses in the world.

FOR THE FAMILY

At The Capra, kids are just as important as the Mums & Dads. We will give them their own room, right next to their parents in our family suites. Just like their parents we also give them direct access to the slopes and if they are in a hurry to put on their skis we’ll drive them there in The Capra electro, and in the evening they can return to a cup of hot chocolate to drink on the terrace or at the bar. If they’ve never skied before we can also arrange for lessons with one of the local Saas-Fee ski schools.

We have also given the kids their own ‘Fun Lab’, filled with DVDs, video games, table tennis and foosball table to relax in after a day on the slopes. Plus, whenever they want, both the indoor and outdoor pools within our spa are also accessible.

In the restaurant as in the bar, they feast on food and drinks specially adapted to their age … a real treat!

WINTER SPORTS IN SAAS-FEE

Thanks to its high altitude, Saas-Fee has great snow year-round and has one of the longest ski seasons in Switzerland. There are 150km of groomed slopes for skiers of all levels as well as the ability for extensive off-piste skiing. Superlatives come naturally to Saas-Fee. It’s home to the world’s highest funicular (Metro Alpin), revolving restaurant (threes!xty), and glacier descent (the Allalin Run). There are a number of winter sports to choose from ensuring that you can always find your interest.

The Capra’s private ski cabin beside the cable car means no trudging through the village carrying boots and skis. Individual lockers are kitted out with glove, boot and helmet warmers, so you can hit the slopes warm and dry or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea as soon as you get back from your day on the slopes. Whenever you are ready to return to the hotel you only have to call our driver and they will come and pick you up.

If you would like to book any of these activities in advance, we’ll be more than happy to help.

SKI

From our ski cabin enjoy more than 150km of groomed pistes and extensive off-piste skiing. Check out our available services and our international team of professional ski instructors with broad knowledge in the following skiing options: On-piste Performance, Freeride, Heli-skiing, Racing, Freestyle & Telemark. Choose from three freestyle pistes: the winter park in Morenia (2600m), the summer park on the Mittelallalin (3600m), or the beginners’ park at Stafelwald (1900m). Finally, there are a number of cross-country ski trails that one can enjoy across the Saas valley.

SKI SAFARI

Ski Safari is a must for those that want to explore new terrain each day by visiting nearby ski resorts, many of which are true “hidden treasures”. There are more than 5 resorts within an hour drive, including; Grächen-St. Niklaus, Blatten–Belalp, Riederalp & Zermatt. We would be happy to organise for all the logistics to make this an unforgettable experience.

SNOWSHOEING

If skiing isn’t for you, snowshoe trekking is definitely worth a go. There is a wide range of guided tours on offer throughout the valley so you are guaranteed to experience the same beautiful views and clean, crisp air of Saas-Fee!

SLEDGING

One of the highest roller coasters in the Alps, the Feeblitz bobsleigh run blends in beautifully with the landscape. With a 360-degree loop followed by a serious of jump bends, it’s not for the faint-hearted. The 5km toboggan run (starting at Hannig) zips through the ravishing glacial scenery. At night, you can toboggan down by torchlight.

ICE SPORTS

Be it ice skating, curling or ice stock sport, spending a few hours on the ice is one of the oldest winter pleasures in the book. Plus, it’s the perfect activity for groups of friends, just give it a try under the guidance of one of our experts. We can promise you a whole lot of fun, not only because of the spontaneous twists and twirls but also because afterwards, the mulled wine and apple punch are going to taste better than ever!

SUMMER IN SAAS-FEE

The summer sports possibilities are as varied as the Free Republic of Holidays Saas-Fee itself!

Beach Volleyball or summer skiing, hiking or climbing, mountain biking or skating, minigolf or tennis, boccia or swimming…Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit, hiking boots and skiing cap. Whatever you fancy, you can (almost always) do it! And you get the fantastic landscapes for free!

HIKING

Whether you’re interested in a gentle hike or a high altitude Alpine tour, the Free Republic of Holidays, Saas-Fee is a diverse outdoor paradise where, across 350km of trails, your view of the impressive 4,000-metre peaks is constantly changing. With access to professional mountain guides, you’ll also have the chance to climb those peaks. The easiest climb is the Allalin (4027m above sea level), starting from the mountain station of the world’s highest tram: the Metro Alpin.

HIGH ROPES

With the right safety gear (included in the entry price), there’s a whole forest of climbing fun to be had in the Adventure Forest of Saas-Fee. Even our smaller guests can have a go on the discovery obstacle course, swinging from tree to tree. This ever-popular large obstacle course has been extended and now guarantees two hours of thrills and spills. The highlight: Europe’s longest Tyrolean zip-line across the Fee gorge – 280m there, 210m back.

TENNIS

Whether you’re playing singles or doubles, tennis is even more fun when set against the high altitude Alpine backdrop of Saas-Fee. There are four outdoor fields in Saas-Fee, three in Saas-Grund, and two in Saas-Almagell. It’s highly unlikely that a match will be interrupted by rain either – in Saas-Fee, the sun shines four days out of five.

SCOOTERING

With not one, not two, but three scooter tracks, Saas-Fee guarantees super speedy descents and unbridled action. A 3.5km-long paved road, wide and easy to ride on, runs from Furggstalden down to Saas-Almagell. From Hannig, you can hop on your scooter for 5.5km on a natural track, whizzing through the glorious scenery to Saas-Fee. Finally, the ultimate downhill kick awaits on the 11km track from Kreuzboden to Saas-Grund on dirt scooters!

Farm to Table

OUR FARM TO TABLE PHILOSOPHY

Dining at The Capra feels like home because it combines a love of detail with a sense for the essential. The Capra is naturally combining sustainability and gastronomy based on our love for good local food and wine.

Our fine dining*, brasserie and lounge menus follow a holistic & wellness approach: with all our actions we focus on health and mindfulness and use our resources carefully. We know where our produce is being sourced and get inspired by what surrounds us. We are always aware that it needs good people to do amazing things and this is why we work so closely with our suppliers.

The inspiration for our menus begins at our own doorstep, at the foot of some of the Swiss Alps greatest mountains. Our menu changes with the season, our ingredients are sourced from suppliers and partners who share our philosophy. Whether it’s vegetables or meat: we try to use every product entirely. At The Capra, we are always looking for quality, origin and authenticity from farm to table.

THE MENUS

Within The Capra, the kitchen team pamper our guests with an honest and uncomplicated cuisine in the Brasserie and two regional and seasonal tasting menus in the Fine Dining Restaurant*.

Our Brasserie menu is inspired by the farm to table philosophy. We call it the luxury of simplicity – an honest cuisine.

In our Fine Dining Restaurant*, awarded 15 Gault Millau points, the menu is based on seasonality and sustainability: fresh, local ingredients from farmers and local producers, who share the passion for quality with us. You can expect a culinary journey with many highlights and Swiss products!

THE WINE CELLAR

The wine cellar makes an atmospheric backdrop for private dining, intimate events, or special celebrations.

The Capra’s wine list includes exciting vintages from established and up-and-coming wineries worldwide. But the main focus is on local wines from the Valais, Switzerland’s foremost wine-growing region. It’s also home to the highest vines in Europe at Visperterminen, 1100m above sea level. The three main varieties are Pinot Noir, Chasselas and Gamay.

Our sommelier hosts wine tastings, so our guests can discover Switzerland’s best-kept secret – the exceptional wines of the Valais.
