The 17-room hotel and its gourmet restaurant welcome you in the heart of the Bourgogne region at the entrance to the Nature Park of Morvan. The easy access by car from the A6 motorway makes the hotel a central point from which to tour and discover the Bourgogne region. Lovers of wine will not resist the discovery of the Grand Crus of Chablis, Beaune et Côtes de Nuits (Corton-Charlemagne, Montrachet, Romanée-Conti, Chambertin ) as well as the nearby and excellent local wines from Irancy and Vézelay.

The Bourgogne region offers an exceptional cultural patrimony. The Vezelay basilica, the Fontenay abbey are both part of the UNESCO world heritage sites. The Chateau of Bazoches, the amazing Chateau of Chastellux and picturesque Medieval village of Noyers are also little gem to discover in the area. The hotel reception will advise you of other places of interest in Morvan.

Le château de Vault-de-Lugny retraces the history of France and particularly that of the region of Bourgogne through the centuries. Passing through the impressive fortifications froom the XIIIth Century to enter the hotel ensures a relaxing and discrete stay far from the madding crowd.

Living in the times of the Duke of Bourgogne

The Château invites you to a romantic promenade and discovery in its 40-hectare fenced park or in its original dungeon, a classified Historical Monument from the XIVth Century.

To also be discovered: the water moats, the top category Cousin river (perch, trout, pike), the Château’s farm, the refuge for animals living freely and the organic vegetable garden and its truffle plantation.

King Room

The King Room is the most beautiful room in the Château. Situated in the Main Wing with a magnificent view on each side over the peaceful countryside of Morvan. In the past, this room was reserved for the Kings of France when passing through the region. Air conditioning .

Junior Suite, Garden View

Beautiful rooms situated on the 1st floor with a panoramic view over the park. King size bed. Beautiful antiques. Luxurious bathroom with bath and shower with its window overlooking the garden. Some Junior Suites have a fireplace and French ceilings.

Sport Activities

Swimming-pool Jacuzzi

In the Château, you will find a magnificent swimming pool, voted the “most beautiful interior swimming pool in France”. The water has a constant temperature of 30° and a Jacuzzi is on hand. A shower, changing rooms and towels are at your disposal.

The swimming pool is open from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Tennis

There is a hard tennis court near the woods in the Château park next to the vegetable garden.

It is free of charge and tennis balls & racquets are at your disposal.

Mountain biking (VTT)

The Château, situated just by the Nature Park of Morvan, is a magical site for nature-loving cyclists.

We offer detailed circuits with an itinerary plus a map, according to your wishes. Certain itineraries, due to the topography, require a good physical condition. Others are easier and offer agreeable outings along the canals and rivers of our beautiful Burgundy countryside.

If you have your own bike, we have a garage. We will let you have the itineraries.

Hikes

We have prepared wonderful hikes across the vineyards and villages starting from the Château, without the need to take your car.

The GR13 starts a 10-minute walk away.

We offer detailed circuits with an itinerary plus a map. You have the choice of a 30-minute, 1-hour walk or even the whole day if you wish.

The length and difficulty of each circuit is indicated on each itinerary free of charge.

Fishing

On site at the Château, you will discover the medieval moats surrounding the outer wall.

Pike fishing, as well as perch and small fish is most entertaining.

You will also find a top category river “the Cousin” running over 800 meters in the property. You can fish for trout and fly-fish if you wish.

If you have no equipment, we can supply fishing rods and hooks.

Hot-air ballooning (reservation compulsary)

France Montgolfière organises two flights a day departing from Vézelay.

The adventure takes about 3 hours including one and a half hour actual flight.
You can reserve your flight directly on the France Montgolfière website.

We can also organise a privatized flight directly from the Château.
We take pleasure in organizing this for you.

Quad (reservation compulsary)

Magnificent quad circuits are proposed in the Morvan Nature Park.

We can also organise privatized outings from the Château with a guide.

Horse-riding (reservation compulsary)

The equestrian club “L’Ecurie de la Fontaine” is situated 5 minutes from the Château.

Outings, private or group lessons can be reserved.

Children are most welcome. The club is closed on Sundays.

Horse-drawn carriage outings (reservation compulsary)

A superb outing in a horse-drawn carriage in the Cousin valley starts from the Château.

Climbing (reservation compulsary)

The Saussois rock range is a unique site for climbing and is situated 40 minutes from the Château.

Spelunking

The limestone subsoil bordering the Morvan houses several magnificent grottos.

Equipped with a helmet, a lamp, a wetsuit and security material, you will enjoy the rare experience of a silent universe, stalactites and stalagmites accompanied by our guides.

2 and half hour session: 39€ per person. Accessible to all from 8 years old, 6 pax minimum.

Adventure circuit, treetop climbing (reservation compulsary)

Situated in Avallon, a fortified town at the entrance to the Morvan in the heart of Burgundy, you will enjoy a unique and rare adventure in a forest of centenary oak trees in the Adventure Park “des Châtelaines”.

It is accessible to all with our different circuits of varied difficulty. You will have the opportunity of enjoying a convivial and recreational moment in total security on a continuous, interactive lifeline that avoids accidental disengagement of the two connections at the same time.

We offer specially prepared menus for small groups up to 25 persons. A salon can be privatised upon request. We also offer food and drink menus specially prepared to meet your budgets.

Karina Laval, our Pastry Chef, will prepare your favourite cake with pleasure.

The Restaurant

The restaurant is in keeping with the hotel. In the same spirit with the same superb decor in the original château kitchens dating back to the 17th century (1640), with their impressive fireplace and the ceiling with its ribbed vaults.

On good weather days, lunch or diner is served at sunset in the gardens of the park and by the classified 400-year-old plane tree and are idyllic moments of irresistible beauty.

The Bar

The bar is situated in the Renaissance style salon with its magnificent parquet floor and its original solid oak panelling. A beautiful marble fireplace with its magnificent mirror ornate this refined and relaxing area.

The bar is open all day to midnight where delicious cocktails with or without alcohol are served. A vast variety of whiskies, aperitifs and liquors are also available. You can also enjoy after-dinner digestives, such as the rare Fine du Domaine de la Romanée Conti. On sunny days, your drinks can be served on lounge chairs in the park or on the terrace.

The Wine Cellar

A very rich wine list of Bourgogne wines is presented to accompany the refined and creative cuisine of our Chef, Franco Bowanee. The Crus have been chosen amongst the most reputed Domains of Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, l’Yonne and the Côte Chalonnaise. Also on the list there are delicacies from Champagne, Côte du Rhône, Bordeaux as well as other regions of France.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a vast menu. Room service is also available from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

For breakfast lovers, a large choice of culinary preparations such as homemade pancakes, cured meats and local cheeses are available.

Picnic, Snack & Room Service

Upon request, we can prepare a complete picnic basket to accompany you on your escapades or lunch by a river. Several possibilities can be prepared. A hot and cold snack menu is available from 2 p.m. to 6p.m.

Returning from your escapade or a tiring trip, a gourmet pause is available all afternoon.

Served on the terrace on sunny days or at the bar, you can enjoy the magnificent the Angus Beef Burger, prawn tempuras, a wonderful salad straight from the vegetable garden or take pleasure in the delicious Caviar of Aquitaine. For our clients not wishing to dine in the restaurant, we propose room service from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
