ABOUT THE MONASTERY |

 Philip II ordered the construction of
the Monastery to thank God for his benefits, set up a Royal Pantheon
for his family and commemorate the battle of Saint Quintin. The
works were started by Juan Bautista de Toledo in 1563, and were
finished by his disciple Juan de Herrera. It is located at Abanto's
mountainside. In its interior the Palaces, the Kings Patio, the
Basilica, the Choir, the Royal Pantheons, the Library and the
Chapter houses can be distinguished. Schedule for visits: from 10 am.
to 6 pm., except Mondays. The visit's length is for one and a half
hours approximately. |
