Via Petracca 73014 Gallipoli − Italy
JP Moser stayed here!
The Victoria Palace opened in 2004, this is a traditional Italian style city hotel, located two blocks away from the beach. All rooms are standard and offer the comfort one would expect from an Italian 4 star, which is simply good and clean, nothing fancy. The hotel is open all year, because it caters to business travelers who come all year, as well as to tourists during season. When the summer season starts, the atmosphere changes completely and the beach becomes the main theme. There is a private beach (in Italy this is known as a Lido) only 5 minutes away from the hotel, here you will find all the ambiance and disco live you would have never imagined to find.
During your stay at The Victoria Palace, enjoy a healthy Mediterranean diet in the restaurant, which offers a choice of exquisite dishes based on the traditions of Salentine cuisine, all made using a wide variety of fresh ingredients produced locally, and best of all, dinner is included in your room rate! You can accompany the meals with the best of the area’s excellent wines: Primitivo and Negroamaro.
A 2 hour guided tour to the old town of Gallipoli, which is absolutely worthwhile visiting, is possible every Wednesday afternoon and is free for all hotel guests, don’t miss it. Or you can take a boat tour, but this one costs 40 Euros per person. It contours the old town peninsula and also goes to a nearby island, where you cannot walk into the island because its reserve full of bird species not found elsewhere.
Beach services include transportation to the Lido, sun beds, umbrellas and deck chairs, all for only 6 Euros a day per person. At the beach there is a bar and light meals.
There are also golf-courses and horse riding lessons nearby, all of which can be arranged by the hotel staff. By May of 2011 the new wing and Spa should be finished, and all the existing rooms will be updated.
By streams of fiery light on the campaigns of olive trees and vineyards to the vastness of a restless and calm sea that starts listening, we grab early in the beauty of the landscape of Salento, made of furnieddhi, menhirs and specchie. In this ascetic nature meets culture of grown men in these places around the sea, whose strength is in the hearts and penchant for hospitality.
Here East and West are gathered in the Byzantine frescoes in the rock dwellings, churches that populate the Salento. Core of Salento is Gallipoli, from the greek kalè polis, which means "beautiful city", crossed by bright sandy beaches. It is forged by the architecture and traditions of the past in modern vibrancy of trade, fisheries and tourism.
Byzantine history traces visible in the Castle rebuilt in sec. XVI by the Anjou, the lasting impression of the beauty of the Greek Fountain, while lying on the sea intact is the beautiful fortress of Rivellino built in the early '500. The smell of the sea is breathed along the coast, which includes the town of Rivabella and Lido Conchiglie.
Moving inland, where the landscape of the Mediterranean bush takes shape, you get to Sannicola, called up to the eighteenth century with the greek name Rodogallo, meaning "place of beautiful roses" and extended in fractions of Chiesanuova and San Simone. Basilian monks from the Byzantine period were responsible for the presence of the remains of the abbeys of San Mauro and San Salvatore, always living testimony of the direct contact with the East and the Mediterranean culture.

Gallipoli: Authentic Mediterranean Culture and Traditions
Tradition, poetry and vitality have come together to make of Gallipoli what it is today. Its traditions can be seen in the architecture and frescos of its churches, in the narrow streets and ancient buildings of the old town and in its age old religious celebrations. Its poetry lies in the breathtaking beauty of the Ionian Sea which pervades every aspect of the town’s life, in the enchantment of its beaches and in the Pindaric flight of its seagulls. The vitality of its people is expressed in their proud straightforward manner, in the calls of vendors at the open air fish market and in the myriad of colours and sounds of the carnival parade. In Gallipoli you will experience smells and tastes that have almost ceased to exist elsewhere, you will be steeped in an atmosphere where echoes of the town’s past fuse with and almost dominate its bustling present life. The harmony of its sea and uncontaminated coastline will inebriate you.
For your Entertainment
If you are looking for suggestive old streets and markets full of the smells, colours and sounds typical of the Mediterranean, or you dream of long stretches of idyllic sandy beaches steeped in the warm amber light of the afternoon sun, alternating with rugged rocky beaches washed by the crystal clear waters of an unpolluted sea, then Gallipoli is the place for you. Finally, if at the end of a day spent playing water sports, sightseeing or simply relaxing on the beach, you want to dance the night away or enjoy some good wine and song, you will find that the wide range of bars, restaurants, discos and events on the beaches in and around Gallipoli can cater for all tastes and age groups without ever tainting the area’ s authentic nature.
