Hotel Villa Casagrande - Sauna

Built into the old ramparts guests will find a swimming pool (opened from the 1st may to 15st october), a sauna, a fitness room, beauty treatments and massages on request. In a separate wing of the building there is a Day-clinic for plastic surgery directed by Dr. Cesare Luccioli together with his daughter Cinzia and his son Paolo.

The property of the Hotel Villa Casagrande also includes a production of Chianti wine and olive oil  of high qualities.  In fact part of the building is still adapted to agricultural use. It  includes wine vats, the wine cellar and the store rooms of the Casagrande farm. The wine cellar, of which half is under the ground, breathes an air of a historic past. In fact, it can be visited and one can admire the large oak barrels used in the past to age the wines and the museum containing old farm tools and antic agricultural machineries.
The Casagrande has 30 hectares of vineyards which are between Figline Valdarno and Rignano,  situated on a limestone hill at around 300 metres above sea level. In the central parts of the vineyard are the Sangiovese and the Cannaiolo grapes which are highly regarded from a technical point of view. The other land is mostly wooded and used to grow cereals whilst the ancient olive grows make up the remaining 17 hectares.

ABOUT THE TOWN OF FIGLINE VALDARNO...

 Figline Valdarno - Central Square

Figline Valdarno is a picturesque village that rises between the slopes of the Chianti hills and the left bank of the Arno river. The first settlements in the area  go back to the Stone Age, and during the Roman Age,  the village was already developed and it carried out several agricultural activities. Around the 11th century a castle was built by the Uberti’s family, thus starting the real consolidation of the residential settlements in the area.
In 1250 the city of Florence invaded the territory of Figline Valdarno and destroyed the castle. In 1356 Florence started the building of an imposing ring of walls and a urban plane consisting of three important roads that connected the town to the cities of Florence, Arezzo and Siena. In the next centuries, under the Medici’s domination,  an economy based on the agriculture started to flourish and Figline Valdarno got such an importance that was called "Florence’s barn". At the beginning of the 14th century,  the town was taken by the French  army, and it was not until 1861 that it was annexed to the Reign of Italy, by the King Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoia.
Among several celebrations periodically taking place in Figline Valdarno  the traditional "Palio di San Rocco" (Saint Rocco Horse Race) held yearly on the first Sunday in September, is worth to  be pointed out. The celebration consists of a historic procession through the town and a horse race involving all the quarters of the town.
