Villa Ciconia is located in
Umbria, at Orvieto's door, about 2 Kms. away from Orvieto's exit on the
Rome-Florence A1 Motorway. Villa Ciconia is in an XVIth Century elegant
villa, surrounded by a large park with centuries-old trees, just on
Chiani River and Carcaione Torrent confluence.
Local Historiography tells us that the structure was originally a tower,
"La Turchinetta", and was property of one of "Monaldeschi" of Cervara
associated with Catherina of Sweden.
Recent reconstructuring retained all the original characteristics of the
Villa Ciconia (thick walls, large beams, and terracotta paving) although
guaranteeing every comfort, the atmosphere is typically tranquil. In the
main hall there is a lacunar ceiling with engraved and decorated strips,
painted with allegorical motifs and landscape scenes. One can admire a
stone fireplace which is thought to be the work of “Ippolito Scalza".
Last but not least, Villa Ciconia has an excellently run Restaurant
featuring high class genuine Umbrian culinary cuisine, complemented by a
well stocked wine cellar with high quality wines and of course Orvieto
classico. |
