Hotel Villa Ciconia is situated in Umbria, on the outskirts of Orvieto, 2 km from the Florence-Rome motorway exit.It is an elegant Villa which dates from the 15th century and is surrounded by an age-old park between river Chiani and Carcaione.

Local historiography tells us that “Villa Ciconia” was originally a Roman tower,“La Turchinetta”, and was property of “Monaldeschi” of Cervara married with Catherina of Sweden. This enlargement was commissioned to Ippolito Scalza (1532 – 1618) by the then owner of the tower Vincenzo Butius.Butius, suffering from bad health, was advised by doctors to live near a river, the first airconditioning. The villa was built, so that the Carcaione stream ran under one of the arches which upheld the structure. River deposits, with time, submerged the ground floor and therefore the “piano nobile”- is now on the first floor.
A careful renovation, while providing every comfort, it has maintained the characteristics (thick walls, large wooden beams, terracotta floors), the atmosphere, and character, the quiet.

The garden is a real park of 10,000 square meters, surrounded by 3 courses of water that make it a peninsula,
with ancient Trees, Holms, Palms, roses, bamboos and other typical Mediterranean plants.
In spring and summer is colored by flowers.
The restaurant on the ground floor is in the main hall with a lacunar ceiling with engraved and decorated stripes, painted with allegorical motifs and landscape scenes. One can admire a stone fireplace which is thought to be realized by “Scalza”.
