Of all these villas, La villalaprincipessa claims the most distant origins: It was, in fact, the home and court of Castruccio Castracani (1281-1328) Lord and Duke of Lucca, man of arms and mercenary captain in the service of Ludwig of Bavaria, who succeeded in passing from history into legend, according to the tradition that holds that Machiavelli, impressed with his manner, found him the model for the Ideal Prince.
