For Tuscans, luxury is made of
simple pleasures; wine, a
little fresh farm-bread and a
lot of olive oil. Villa
Mangiacane estate
currently has 41 hectares
planted of vines – Sangiovese,
Canaiolo, Colorino and Merlot
and it also makes its own
Olio d´Oliva, famous for its
distinctly peppery notes.
Located just 10 kilometers
outside of Florence, the Villa
Mangiacane’s 247 hectares are
situated in the communes of San
Casciano Val di Pesa and Greve
in Chianti. The vineyards’
diverse exposures create
different microclimates,
guaranteeing the wines more
complexity and character.
Mangiacane Extra Virgin Olive
Oil is part of its history, as
is evident from the ancient
measuring casts and old frontoio
with its big wheel, still on
display. Villa Mangiacane’s
olive groves cover approximately
20 hectares of the estate’s
gentle hills. The 6,000 trees
are divided between the Frantoio,
Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino
cultivars. Since 2001 the Villa
has been pressing the olives in
its own mill: this ensures that
batches of olives are picked and
pressed within the same day –
usually between the end of
October and beginning of
November – and their fruity oil
bears witness to this.

ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS |
|
|
|
Siena, located not far from Villa Mangiacane estate is one of the finest
examples of a medieval city, born
on three hills and enclosed by walls which is an interesting place to
visit. Over the centuries it has kept its typical medieval
appearance untouched, with narrow alleys and noble palaces, surrounded by
a beautiful hill landscape. Why not visit it during the days
of its glorious Palio when all is magic
in Siena! The Palio of
Siena is a unique life experience. The
magic of a tradition hundreds of years
old, in which the residents live for this
moment, having conserved the same rites
and atmosphere since the middle
ages. The Palio is run to celebrate the
miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary
near the old houses that belonged to Provenzano Salvani
in the mid 1600’s.
Also not far from Villa Mangiacane, the surroundings
offers to the tourist a large range of itineraries to discover natural and
untouched landscapes, perfectly conserved medieval villages, archaeological
places, art cities like Florence, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Montepulciano,
Pienza, and so on.
Only 12 kms away, you will find the beautiful city of Florence.
