La Torre del Visco

La Torre del Visco dates from the early 15th century, likely property of the Spanish Knights Templar of the Order of Calatrava, and was originally built with a defensive watchtower, designed to keep a weather eye on centuries-old skirmishes between various factions in the kingdoms of Aragon, Catalunya and Valencia. This fascinating history was discovered by Jemma and Piers in 1993 when leaving Madrid after 20 years in publishing to search for somewhere to convert into a beautiful country retreat. Today, the estate has been lovingly restored into a jewel in the wilderness that embodies their enduring passions for Spain, food, wine, farming, gardening, art and, above all hospitality.

Warm, responsive service is core to the Relais Chateaux ethos. And everyone who serves at Torre del Visco is chosen because they’re naturally good at it, then trained to make it intuitive. Once they join us people tend to stay, they enjoy the one-to-one ratios of staff to guests as much as our guests do.

• In keeping with our ethos of tranquil escape, there are no televisions in the hotel.
• Our hotel has a strict no smoking policy in all rooms but there are ashtrays outside for guests to use.
• Due to the unique characteristics of our hotel – medieval, labyrinthine, built on a hillside – we regret that it has not been possible to adapt our facilities for those with disabilities.
