A UNIQUE BOUTIQUE HOTEL: THE HOTEL MUSEO

WHAT MAKES THE PALACE OF LA SERNA IN A UNIQUE BOUTIQUE HOTEL?

It is a late eighteenth-century building of neoclassical style and rationalist court. Built on the occasion of the industrial boom of the mining, it happened soon to be farm and House of the Town. A building with a lot of history over the centuries that will delight the lovers of the boutique hotel.

The different buildings of the building are communicated through large, beautifully landscaped courtyards. The interior design has been run entirely by the owner, Eugenio Bermejo, who subtly combines various aesthetic trends, creating original and comfortable spaces. The house also has a contemporary art museum, a temporary art exhibition hall and an outdoor sculpture museum.

The whole aesthetic process is treated with the greatest respect for the architectural canons of the house, incorporating in an eclectic way all kinds of artistic tendencies. Each of the rooms is designed as a small exhibition of a different painter, which are part of the museum's funds, and which can also be purchased.

Sleeping in one of the rooms at Palacio de la Serna is an experience in itself. A destination for lovers of boutique hotels where you will discover a neoclassical Manchego palace converted into a hotel-museum that has managed to blend the classic with the modern giving it an authentic style. As a good boutique hotel has different nuances in each of its facilities, giving them their own character.

A boutique hotel that values itself should value the quality above the amount, so in our hotel we only have 27 rooms, each of them with a different personalization, where to get real rest and enjoy an authentic privacy. In addition, some of our rooms, such as the kindness or the superior, have whirlpool baths for a greater relaxation or if you decide for a suite would have a private Jacuzzi in the room. In addition we put at your disposal our private spa for two where you can enjoy massages, treatments, whirlpool ...

All rooms are equipped with TV, heating, air conditioning, telephone, hairdryer, minibar, safe, bathrobes, slippers ... The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool.

The Palace has many very personal spaces. As the library, a common room perfect for relaxing and enjoying the silence; the art gallery, where you can enjoy works of different contemporary artistic movements; the museum of classic cars, with an astonishing collection of mainly European cars and of course the gardens, courtyards ...

Gastronomy is a very important factor in the Palace. Our restaurant is characterized by practicing the traditional cuisine of La Mancha with touches of author. Thus we give a special character to dishes like porridge, migas, pisto, tignao, etc. We have a very extensive menu and we have very interesting menus where the romantic dinner and the tasting menu stand out.

For groups we can prepare activities of different types such as: bicycles, excursions to Almagro, Tables of Daimiel, Lagoons of Ruidera and archaeological remains medieval and prehistoric. Hiking and Hunting. Workshop of Craft and Classroom of Plastic Arts in the own hotel.

To put the end point to your trip, the palace of the serna is very close to the main attractions of the province like Almagro, Ciudad Real or the castle of Calatrava La Nueva among others.

HISTORY OF THE PALACE IN THE FIELD OF CALATRAVA

THE FIELD OF CALATRAVA IN A VOLCANIC SPACE

The Palace of the Serna of Ballesteros de Calatrava is located in a natural space of peculiar characteristics. The Campo de Calatrava is a wide natural region defined by its geographical and historical reality. In this region the order of Calatrava developed during seven centuries as a consequence of the assignments that Sancho III realized before the impossibility to defend them of the attack of the Almohads. In order to carry out this task, the abbot Raimundo de Fitero and Fray Diego Velásquez created in 1158 the religious-military order of Calatrava.

The region has a great geomorphological and scenic interest due to its volcanic relief. It has a large number of volcanoes (more than one hundred), numerous "eruptive mechanisms" and "exemplary forms".

There are volcanic devices called "maares" or "explosive craters" that have in their interior lake complexes of great ecological interest.

Thermal springs known as "boiling" or "sources" of sour water appear in the area because of their high carbon dioxide content accompanied by iron and manganese hydroxides. Natural soils generated from volcanic materials are fertile, so they have been used for the cultivation of cereals.

Explosive and lava materials are used as masonry material, pavement ... Since 1964 there has been a massive extraction of pyroclasts used as aggregates, ballast for infrastructure works, and above all, as an additive of pozzolanic cements.

The Campo de Calatrava is bordered to the north and northwest by the foothills of the southern foothills of Toledo, to the south with the valleys of Ojailén and Alcudia and to the northeast and rising by La Mancha and Campo de Montiel. In the whole of Campo de Calatrava we can highlight as singular elements:

The "maares" that form a group of explosive craters in the Sierra de Medias Lunas located southwest of Valverde. The Posadilla-Portillo maar is the best known.

"Simple mixed volcanic devices" (generated from Strombolian eruptive mechanisms) with pyroclastic cones crowned by circular or chipped craters with large smooth lava flows (pahoheoe). Interesting are those of La Yezosa (Almagro), Peñarroya (Alcolea de Calatrava), Columba (Calzada - Granátula de Calatrava) and the Conejera (Ballesteros de Calatrava)

"Network of thermal springs" such as those of Fuensanta, Fontecha, Sacristanía, San Cristóbal and Villar del Pozo.

Ciudad Real was founded by King Alfonso X the Wise in 1255, in order to curb the growing power of the Military Orders. In the city lived Christians, along with Jews and Muslims, being divided into three parishes: Santa Maria, San Pedro and Santiago. It was in the time of the Catholic Kings when the city lived its maximum splendor, placing in it the Court of the Holy Inquisition and the Royal Chancery.

Castle of Calatrava

It was a Muslim stronghold of Roman origin of great strategic importance, for it was for the Arabs to control the Christian forces on their way to Al-Andalus and for the Christians an excellent military observatory which was surrounded by other small fortifications nearby. It conserves in its ruins remains of two walled enclosures with patio between both and quarters dependencies with some vault of complete cannon. In the south-west area is the tower of the homage, which has a height of about 12 m, built in quartzite and volcanic stone with lime and sand mortar.

Museum of Marina Viso del Marqués

It is a historical site, the Palace of Don Álvaro de Bazán, this museum is the headquarters of the General Archive of the Spanish Navy. It also has reproductions of boats and old armament, carriages, cannons, armor and period furniture.
