Hospitality

A warm welcome from the Duftner family

"It's the many small things that make a big difference!" That is something we hear again and again from our guests.

A friendly smile from a member of staff, the attention to detail in the decorations, the fusion of traditional and modern elements, the outstanding evening meals and the extensive wine list put together by the hotel owner and resident sommelier – all these small things combine to make holidays at the Hotel Böglerhof a special experience that will leave you with memories for a lifetime.

History

Tradition you can feel

The turbulent histoy of the Hotel Böglerhof starts many centuries ago when the building was used as a workshop by a craftsman making bows and arrows. It was later a courthouse for miners during the reign of the Fugger dynasty, before becoming an inn.

This long and proud history can be seen and felt by visitors to the Hotel Böglerhof, from the age of silver mining to the battles under freedom fighter Andreas Hofer and the modern incarnation of the hotel run by the Duftner family.

Böglerhof

Then and now

The Hotel Böglerhof takes its name from the Bögler, which was the name given to a maker of bows. This was the first recorded use of the site where the hotel stands today. During the successful mining period in the Middle Ages under the Fugger family there was a mining court located in the building. Our large wine cellar and the wood-pannelled Fuggerstube room date back to this period in the 15th century. When the silver rush came to an end, the Böglerhof became an inn.

In 1809 the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer wrote a letter to Herr Pögler in Alpbach to call on the residents of Alpbach to take up arms in the struggle against the Napoleonic forces. This letter is still kept in the Hotel Böglerhof today.

In 1933 the young wine trader Alfons Moser bought the Böglerwirt – the start of a success story which continues today under the leadership of the Duftner family.

Many interesting personalities from around the world still come to Alpbach and the Hotel Böglerhof every year. Famous guests have included Sir Karl Popper, Erwin Schrödinger, Sir John Eccles, Konrad Lorenz, Arthur Köstler, Helmut Kohl, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, Catherine Ashton and former Austrian president Dr. Heinz Fischer.

Chapel

Haven of Peace

Our mountain chapel is the perfect place for quiet contemplation

Looking for a haven of peace on holiday in the Alpbachtal Valley? Then the Hotel Böglerhof's mountain chapel is exactly the right place. This modern nine-sided building is ideal for a little quiet contemplation in the Alps.

Initiated by the former owner of the Hotel Böglerhof Karin Duftner, it was officially opened at Whitsun 2014. The chapel, located in the garden between the Hotel Böglerhof and the Congress Centrum Alpbach, is open from 9:00 until 21:00.

Architecture

Modern chapel made using traditional materials

The Hotel Böglerhof's chapel has a modern design with plenty of glass and wood. The eye-catching roof is covered with larchwood tiles, while the floor plan is that of an enneagram, a shape going back to Babylon and Pythagoras and still used today in humanities and economics.

The nine pillars of the enneagram represent the nine types of people; the niches hold the human religions. The middle of the chapel – which is designed to form a space for all religions – is a natural spring that stands for life and the energy of God.

For more information about our mountain chapel contact Karin Duftner by calling +43 680 1438039 or sending an e-mail to karin@duftner.com.
